This month marked the beginning of our boycott of the advertisers of MaineToday Media. The boycott is in response to the unjust firing by MaineToday Media of Christian journalist, Larry Grard. Larry was fired because of an e-mail he sent on his private account on his own time in defense of Maine’s successful traditional marriage amendment campaign. In online comments responding to a news article about Larry’s firing, people from both sides of the marriage debate are outraged. A comment left by self-identified homosexual said “Even though I fully supported the [homosexual marriage] campaign, I think that the termination that occurred was extreme.” Another user commented “I could care less if gays or lesbians want to marry… However this reporter is allowed to do as he wants as far as I am concerned, especially when it was a private email account! No laws were broken correct? This seems pretty clear cut to me.” Christians should not be fired for expressing their opinion about important issues in the culture, especially something as important as marriage.
TAKE ACTION: Help us pressure businesses in Maine to stop buying advertising with MaineToday Media until Larry’s situation is justly resolved. Below is the list of businesses to be boycotted. Please, contact as many businesses as you can and let them know that you will not be patronizing them because of their continued advertisements with MaineToday Media.
